A Day at the Beach

•October 4, 2007 • 1 Comment

Each morning Josh takes the girls to GG Park (Golden Gate park) and each afternoon I take them to the beach. Ocean beach is gorgeous; it is 6 short blocks from our house & borders on the Presidio. Dogs can be off leash on the north and south ends of the beach.

When the girls first arrive at the beach they make a run for the big group of birds:

We have been busying settling into life here in San Francisco and I wanted to catch you up a bit on some of our adventures and day to day life. The girls are definitely getting bigger :) They have been spending a lot of time with their new friend Porter (Lyla’s boyfriend) and hanging out on the new couch.

The girls spend the mornings walking in Golden Gate park with Josh. There is a clearing where other dog owners leave peanuts for the squirrels to entertain the dogs (they say only 3 have been caught in the last 10 years; lets just hope my girls never catch one). The girls have been learning from the others and are VERY into the squirrels.

In the early evenings the pups and I go for hour long walks on the beach; they have such a blast playing in the ocean and running around on the sand.

This past weekend we took the girls on their FIRST camping trip to Big Sur. They had such a blast. We bought a tent with a doggy den (which had a doggy door), but of course they slept on us. We spent the day at the beach and hiked up to the top of a mountain to watch the sunset. We hung out around the camp fire at night and had a huge pot luck dinner; while the girls slept at our feet.

They Don’t Realize How Big They’re Getting!

•May 16, 2007 • 5 Comments

The pups still try to go out the doggy door together and get stuck; so one of them will have to back out. Their favorite tight spot is under the guest bed where they have to scoot under on their bellies. Below are a couple of pics of Naama under the bed.

They have found this big stick that looks like a big bone and it is their new favorite toy. At times they gnaw on it together and other times one will steal it away but the other just barks at her.

First Time at the Beach!

•April 22, 2007 • 8 Comments

So we took the pups down to Rocky Point, Mexico for the weekend. When we arrived Friday night as it got later and the sun went down, it got windier and windier. We realized we couldn’t camp out with the pups on the beach as we originally planned. So we pulled into a hotel in the Old Port, but they didn’t take dogs. They tell us we have room 224. Unfortunately, we couldn’t pull up near the room so we each wrapped a pup in a towel and ran like hell. When Josh opened the door, there was a guy already in there. So back to the car we went. The next room we were able to pull up right in front. Josh got us great take-out and the pups slept in the bed with us.

The next morning we found this awesome spot for breakfast in Cholla Bay with the BEST homemade cinnamon rolls. The pups, Josh and I dined on the front porch. Then we hung out on the beach for the morning. They have the longest low tide. We let the dogs off their leashes and they had a blast. Lyla was a little freaked out by the waves at first, but they had a blast running through the water and chasing seagulls and sandpipers.

We strolled down “Shacks 5th Avenue” (their market) and had lunch in the Old Port on the deck over looking the Gulf. The food the entire weekend was fabulous- the Mexican and the seafood.

We knew it was going to be another windy night so we decided to head home; the girls were exhausted and slept the whole way back.

We still need to take them camping; we’ll have to go somewhere up north. That’ll be our next trip! But, boy was it nice to see the ocean! We definitely miss the beach out here…Looking forward to Salt River tubing in May!

PS Here are some funny pictures!

Our First Big Swim!

•April 9, 2007 • 3 Comments

Even though its only April, it has been getting pretty warm around here so we decided to drive the girls to the Gilbert Dog Park because they have a lake for dogs to swim in (the lake was awesome, unfortunately people don’t pick up after their dogs there- gross!). Naama jumped into the deep lake from the rocky shore when being pursued by a bullmastif; she came right back out. Although she kept following the other dogs to the end of the dock, she never jumped off.

Lyla walked right into the deep lake and didn’t know how to get out. Josh wouldn’t let me get her out and so we called for her and she ended up getting out by sliding along the dock.

Part 2:

All in all it was a bit traumatic and after a good nap in the car and some time to dry off in the front yard, we were off to the Scottsdale dog park where Lyla (for the first time) played with another dog!
